Our People
We Invest in Our People
More than a quarter of our workforce are long-term employees – our safe and high-performing culture is central to our success to attract and retain our incredible workforce.
We are People not a Number
Our people tell us regularly they work with us, stay with us, and come back to us because HSE Mining is a supportive environment where everyone knows they are safe; treated as people and not a number!
Feels like Family
We are proud to be part of a team that feels like family. We provide a flexible and empowering workplace, an inclusive and equitable culture and a diverse and representative workforce.
HSE Mining’s Leadership Team earned their individual reputations successfully delivering many of Australia’s largest and most complex mine projects.
Combined with international credentials across all commodities, the team tailor metals and minerals solutions to the individual needs of our clients.

Peter is passionate about driving value for clients and finding smarter and safer ways to do more with less.
Peter champions the company’s sustainable development initiatives to ensure we meet our goals to cause zero harm, achieve net zero impact on the environment and excel as corporate citizens.

Having overseen many ”change management” programs that have delivered significant shifts in safety, performance and behaviours, Pat works closely with clients to cement the project culture and working relationship from day one. Pat draws on lessons learned and experience on project steering groups and relationship teams to ensure that contractor and client organisations are culturally aligned.
He also brings his strong mining-industry network garnered during his time in executive roles where he was responsible for project construction and commissioning, statutory mine management; commercial; OHS&E; management of contracts and operations; sales and marketing; and reporting to a joint-venture management committee and board.

A natural leader of people, Michael’s teams are always motivated to stretch in identifying opportunities to add value by finding faster, smarter or safer ways of doing more with less.
Michael is passionate about identifying and evaluating the digital innovations and emerging technology of Mining 4.0 and its transformative role in site performance and productivity. In particular, the role automation and predictive analytics plays to shape fleet operations including improving maintenance schedules.

Greg is an extremely hands-on GM of Mining Operations and is personally responsible for ensuring projects are resourced with the right plant and people to minimise mine gate costs and provide low-cost solutions that attract and retain the high-performing workforce to meet and sustain production.
Throughout his career, Greg has mobilised large workforces quickly including more than 1000 people on a $2.5b iron ore mining services project and most recently he mobilised and onboarded 350 personnel and $200m of heavy mining fleet on a coal project.

Jackson works tirelessly during contract negotiations to build rigour and discipline into the project establishment – allocating the right risk to the right entity. Jackson repeatedly demonstrates the value of getting the contract set up right the first time with clear accountability – an essential ingredient to ensure client satisfaction. He has robust conversations internally and with HSE Mining clients upfront to thoroughly identify, plan for and engineer out the risks so that clients experience smooth ongoing management of the contract.
He works collaboratively with clients to define clear and unambiguous contracts to meet the project objectives to give clients what they want – commodities mined cleanly and delivered consistently every month to meet the production targets.

Tony ensures safety is always front and centre. His safety-first lens has been honed throughout his career. Tony has worked closely with the HSE function during senior executive roles in-house at Glencore Xstrata where he was GM of Human Resources and Group General Manager of HR for a global logistics company. There he was also responsible for aligning the HR and HSE business plans of the logistics services to the mining, energy and government sectors in Australia and Asia.
Tony understands in a competitive and tightening market how to find the optimum balance between attracting the right resources, building a sustainable and safe onsite culture that is performance focused, paying people fairly and minimising gate costs to deliver assets at the lowest cost per tonne. He expertly navigates these HR challenges to ensure best for project solutions.
OUR COMMUNITIES
Our focus has always been ‘extracting value not just minerals and metals’. This means we are acutely aware of the role we play in providing long-term benefits, not just for our people and our clients but in the communities in which we operate – be that as catalysts for regional prosperity, employment, partnerships or local participation to deliver long-term value. When the communities in which we operate prosper, so does our business.
We are committed to the sustainable development of our business and we take a long-term view in relationships with our people, our partners, our customers, and our communities to find new ways to reduce the resources we use.
We work with clients whose overarching approach to local communities is always genuine engagement.
Training & Development
We are committed to the continual development and training of Our People. We have a Maintenance Upskill Program, Leadership & Management Development Program, Statutory Training, Graduate Program and a successful Apprenticeship Program. Experienced plant operators are proud to complete HSE Mining’s rigorous internal training and upskilling programs. Through Swire we are also able to offer an array of training opportunities for our workforce across Australia.
Looking to join the industry and not sure where to start? Our New to Industry (NTI) initiative is a great start. We offer employment opportunities to people who wish to join the Mining industry – 70% of the NTI people placed in our operations are women. We also have an established Gender and Diversity Program.
Our Mackay Workshop is undergoing an exciting transformation into a state of the art training facility so we can continue to deliver the highest standards of operation, safety and quality training in the heart of the Bowen Basin.
